• Sam’s Dish 2016 Favorites

One year ago, this week, I took a risk and started Sam’s Dish. In 2016 I shared 71 (wow) recipes with you. Lots of cooking, baking and eating happened in my little kitchen. It was a good first year! Last night I sat down with my hubby and we looked through all of the recipes on the blog. I lost count of the number of times that he said things like “that was really good” or “you haven’t made that in a long time” or “we ate good last year”. lol. So today I’m sharing our (mine and my husband’s) favorite recipes from 2016.     Here are our…

  • Shrimp and Broccoli with Cheese Tortellini

Hope you had a great New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day! We have a horrible track record for NYE. One of us is usually sick and yep, it happened again this year. So being the party animals that we are, we stayed up until 10:30pm, took cold medicine, and went to bed. We managed to get ourselves to church on Sunday, barely on time, but we made it. Then we rallied on Sunday afternoon and organized our main storage space, which included a trip to Target to get more plastic totes and an iced coffee…starting the year off right over here. Next on the list is organizing in the kitchen.  …

  • Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, y’all! I hope you all were able to spend time yesterday with family and friends on Christmas Day.     This year I had to slow down and remember that Christmas isn’t actually about the perfectly decorated trees and professional Christmas cards, or the gifts we give and parties we attend, or enjoying hot chocolate and baking dozens of cookies. Christmas is about remembering that the baby in the manger came to save the world.   It’s been a fun 1st year for Sam’s Dish and I’m so glad you are part of it! I’m taking the rest of the year off to spend time celebrating Christmas and just…

  • Creamy Chicken and Gnocchi Soup

Today I have a recipe for you that is warm and hearty and perfect to combat all of the sweets that we have been eating. This soup comes together quickly, so it is perfect for those busy days around the holidays when you don’t have extra time to spend in the kitchen.     Tender bites of vegetables, chicken, and gnocchi are all encompassed in a light and creamy broth. This soup is delightfully flavorful and creamy, while not being too heavy. Another great thing about this soup is that it can be made, start to finish, in one pot. Which means less dishes to wash and more time to…

  • Lighter Cranberry Bliss Bars

Today we have the third recipe for Sam’s Christmas Treats!     These Cranberry Bliss Bars are a new favorite that I now want to make all of the time. Can we talk about how beautiful these bars are for a minute? The creamy white cream cheese frosting is dotted with bright cranberries.   Brown sugar gives the bars lots of flavor and helps to keep them moist. They also have just the slightest bit of spice from the cinnamon and are dotted with sweet white chocolate and chewy cranberries.     Using light cream cheese brings full flavor without all of the calories.     Bake up a batch…

  • Saturday Coffee & Dish – December 2016

Merry Christmas! Today I’m talking about some of my favorite recipes for Christmas and new ones I want to try this year. And if you still need some help with your Christmas shopping, I’m sharing a couple of my favorite things to give and get below.   {ONE} Did you see the first two recipes for Sam’s Christmas Treats? Stay posted because we are only halfway done. Potato Chip Cookies White Chocolate Chip Snickerdoodles {TWO} These Silicone Spoons are a favorite in my kitchen and would be a perfect hostess gift this Christmas. I have lots of non-stick pans and these spoons don’t scratch them. Also, since they are silicone, they…

  • White Chocolate Chip Snickerdoodles

Today I’m sharing the second recipe for Sam’s Holiday Treats. These White Chocolate Chip Snickerdoodles started with a traditional Snickerdoodle made from the recipe I grew up enjoying every Christmas and then we add the magic ingredient…white chocolate chips and you have our new favorite way to enjoy Snickerdoodles!     Traditionally Snickerdoodles are made with cream of tartar. I don’t know about you, but I never have cream of tartar on hand and I bet you don’t either. So I’ve used baking powder to replace the cream of tartar and baking soda the recipe originally called for.     Soft, chewy, and covered in a tasty cinnamon and sugar mixture. These…

  • Roasted Sweet Potatoes

I couldn’t let Thanksgiving come and go without sharing a new recipe with you. Before we get to the recipe that I’m excited to share with you today, I wanted to take a minute to share with you some of the things I am thankful for this year: Family and friends who are like family to us. My husband – he’s worked extremely hard to provide for us this year. Good health Coffee, chocolate, and this blog where I get to share my love of food with you!     This year I’m not hosting Thanksgiving dinner, but I am making apple pie and pumpkin pie. I am pretty traditional…
